The D-Day Story Collection
A photograph showing troops of 9th Canadian Infantry Brigade disembarking at Bernieres-sur-Mer, Nan White sector of Juno Beach from Landing Craft, Infantry (Large) or LCI(L) 299. Some of them are carrying bicycles. This is British official photograph A 23938 (this number is also now used as the Imperial War Museum reference number). This print seems to date from the Second World War or just after 1945. It is part of a collection of objects that were used by Captain Charles Lewis Joy, Royal Artillery (who may have been a staff officer grade G3 at Southwick House, and seems to have been involved in planning the naval bombardment in support of the troops on D-Day).
