The D-Day Story Collection
Booklet D, France North Coast Silhouette photographs, La Riviere to Le Havre
A coastal silhouette booklet entitled 'France. North Coast. Booklet D'. It consists of a series of photographs of the Normandy beaches from La Riviere to Le Havre (Gold, Juno and Sword Beaches), taken from a low-flying aircraft. The booklet was prepared by the ISTD (Inter Services Topographical Department). It belonged to Mr Oliver H. Perks, who was a Forward Observation Officer with 90th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, part of 231 Brigade, 50th Division. On D-Day his Landing Craft, Tank (LCT), got waterlogged while crossing the Channel, and had to return to Shoreham, so he did not land in Normandy until three days later. He served in North West Europe until the end of the war.
