A photograph showing a church service on board a ship, probably US Navy Landing Ship, Tank (LST) 529. A barrage balloon can be seen in the sky in the background. One of a series of 13 photographs, part of the papers of Canon F.W. (Mike) Crooks, a Royal Navy chaplain at the time of D-Day. On D-Day he crossed the English Channel on US Navy Landing Ship, Tank (LST) 529, and went ashore at Courseulles, Juno Beach. He stayed in Normandy for several days and then returned to the UK with wounded troops.
