The D-Day Story Collection
A photograph of military vehicles on board US Navy Landing Ship, Tank (LST) 529 on a trip to the French coast, after D-Day. Other vessels can be seen to the right of the photo, and land in the background. There are also two barrage balloons. One of a series of 13 photographs, part of the papers of Canon F.W. (Mike) Crooks, a Royal Navy chaplain at the time of D-Day. On D-Day he crossed the English Channel on US Navy Landing Ship, Tank (LST) 529, and went ashore at Courseulles, Juno Beach. He stayed in Normandy for several days and then returned to the UK with wounded troops.
