The D-Day Story Collection

Poland - First to Fight

A soft-back book entitled 'Poland - First to Fight', by Peter Jordan, dated 1944. It describes the actions of Poland and Polish people during the Second World War, such as the participation of Free Polish forces on the Allied side, including during the Battle of Britain and Bomber Command's raids on Germany. There is a photograph of General Sikorski with Winston Churchill and General de Gaulle. It does not mention the Battle of Normandy, presumably because it was published slightly too early. Stamped '12 Company R.A.O.C. 29 Nov. 1944'. Previously owned by Lieutenant Colonel M. Nicol, who during the Second World War was officer commanding No.1 Main Stores Transit Depot RAOC, which handled all ordnance stores required by 21st Army Group after D-Day. The unit was based at Eastleigh and Micheldever.
