D-Day Conference

Saturday 22 September 2018

09:00 to 17:30

Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to move the venue for this event to: Portsmouth Museum, Museum Road, Portsmouth PO1 2LJ. As a result, ticket numbers are more limited, so make sure you book as soon as you can.

Our annual D-Day conference is aimed at a wide range of people. Whether you have a long-standing interest in D-Day or are just curious to find out more about this subject, we hope that you can come along.

Registration and refreshments from 9am

Conference starts 9.30am

Dr David Abrutat, University of Buckingham, “Surveys, Sand and Sweat: The topographical intelligence behind D-Day”

Dr Edward Flint, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, “Allied Civil Affairs in Normandy; planning and execution”

Dr Stephen Hart, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, “Lost and in Peril: the Tragedy of the Worthington Force Battle Group, 8-9 August 1944”

Linda Hervieux, journalist and author, “The Forgotten Black GIs of D-Day and Their Intriguing Mission”

Plus, hear from our staff how our new displays were created and get an insider’s look at some of the key artefacts in the displays.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are not available on the day.

Your conference ticket entitles you to a buffet lunch, including vegetarian food. Refreshments will be provided on arrival and in the afternoon. Please let us know when you book if you have any special dietary requirements.

We will allow time at the end of the day for ticket holders to go to The D-Day Story (which is about one mile away) and see our new displays there.
