Six landing craft were built here in early 1944 for the D-Day Landings, including Landing Craft, Tank (LCT) 7074 which is now on display at our museum in partnership with the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
LCT 7074 took part in the D-Day Landings. After loading tanks at the River Orwell, the LCT crossed the English Channel to Gold Beach. On 7 June the LCT successfully landed 9 out of the 10 tanks that it was carrying, all of which were from the 7th Armoured Division.
