HMS Vernon, Gunwharf

The Royal Navy’s torpedo and mining school at HMS Vernon was the base for part of Force S – the naval force that landed British troops on Sword Beach. It was also the base for Motor Torpedo Boats, which on D-Day protected the flanks of the landings against enemy naval attack.
